particle sorting involves utilising sensors capable of providing on-line information on grade (or a proxy of) within a narrow particle size range of material post blast. This narrow size range is driven by the requirements of some sensor technologies for a limited size distribution to improve rock interaction and enable individual particle separation using air jets or mechanical actuators. It is driven by stream heterogeneity and as such accesses a different opportunity than other screening levers. Complementary to other levers particle sorting can be used as a ‘cleaner’ on lower volume separated streams.
